ABOUT LA BANDE SANS FIN
La Bande Sans Fin has been nurturing its electronic machine for the past six years. Eight pieces into their first album, LBSF is starting to play out in earnest. This constantly evolving project has set its sights on the blurry edges of the mainstream.
LBSF is David Blum and David Zerlin, veterans of Chicagoís musical margins. Their ever-extensible band consists of dozens of hi/lo-fi gizmos, interconnections and feedback loops, which they coax into simultaneous song and projected image. Their rich sound is sometimes texturally ambient, sometimes heavily structured and rhythmic ‚ a playfully constructed experience woven together from audio-visual shards. They like to encorporate additional live musicians when possible.
La Bande Sans Fin represents David and Davidís solution tothe problem of reconciling discordant glitchy beats and electro-acoustic throbs with the lyrical textures of a more approachable synthetic pop.
HOW PERFORMANCES WORK
In performance, LBSF divides performance tasks. Zerlin plays most instrumental parts as well as contact mics, and the stray bass or guitar line, while molding the basic mix. Blum intervenes with an array of effects, augmenting Zerlinís lines and the output of the laptop, while mixing in additional outside sources from radio and CD. Together they hone the mix.
DAVID BLUM
David Blum is a filmmaker, sound designer and musician. Perhaps because of the many years he worked in the video post-production industry, he gravitates toward the hand-made and lo-tech for his means of personal expression. ÝHe has work with and produced music of others, including Vadim Pevzner, Scopdom Scop, Billy Jonas and Twang Bang.
DAVID ZERLIN
David Zerlin is a bass player, producer and award-winning sound designer. He has formed the aural foundation of 3 albums, 5 films and 60 theatrical productions, and persists in the belief that making pizza is a musical act. He has performed with, written music for, and produced albums for Puckering Wink, Monicaís Interval and Town of Quaint Little Homes.
